:: Getting Started::

Benito Juárez Blvd. is recognized as the main street in Rosarito. This Blvd. runs parallel to the Tijuana-Ensenada scenic toll road and the Pacific Ocean. On the south end of this Blvd., is the main strip, where you can find hotels, restaurants,shops and nightclubs. This will be our reference point for this tour.

If Arriving by car or cab: From the US or Tijuana, the easiest way to get there is through the Tijuana-Ensenada Scenic Toll Road. After a great panoramic ride by the Pacific Ocean coastline, driving approximately 17 miles south, you will reach Rosarito City limits. If you continue on the Tijuana-Ensenada Scenic Toll Road, and make a right in the 4th exit, you`ll arrive just in front of the Rosarito Beach Hotel. This is a good place to park. From there, you will be able to star your walking tour.

If arriving by motor coach: Chances are you´ll be dropped off at your hotel, so we recommend starting tour at  site number 1.

:: Site 1 Wa Kuatay Museum ::

The name WA KUATAY is taken from the KUMIAI dialect, means "Big House of Big Chief". This was the name that the first settlers of The Baja California gave to what now is Rosarito. The museum exhibits pictures and artifacts respresentative of Rosarito`s first settlers and history. They also have contemporary art exhibits. The Museum is open Tuesday Thru Sunday 9:00 to 17:00 Hrs.

After your visit, exit the musem heading north and walk to site number 2.

:: Site 2 Rosarito Beach Hotel Passage ::

This shopping area was one of the first constructions in Rosarito. Here you will find arts & crafts, art galleries, liquor stores, Internet cafe´s and department stores that carry the bes brands at great prices. When you have finished your shopping spree go to site number 3.

:: Site 3 Rosarito Beach Hotel ::

Founded in 1925, the Rosarito Beach Hotel is one of the oldest historical structures and tourist complexes in Baja California. Built in the mid 1920`s by the "Los Angeles Investment Group" and then purchased by the business entrepeneur Manuel Barbachano, this structure was transformed into a tourist complex with casino, hotel, restaurant and private beach. since then, this has been one of the favorite hot spots for holliwood stars such as Orson Wells, Lana Turner, Rita Hayworth, Dolores Del Rio, Gregory Peck, Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and many more.

The colonial style architecture of the lobby and the main building structure still preserve their original states. Authentic 1920´s mosaic and mural paintings portray various stages on Mexican History. Take a walk inside the hotel, walk through the gardens and head to the beach where you will see the Rosarito Beach Hotel Pier site number 3.

:: Site 3 Rosarito Beach Pier ::

The pier is one of the mos recent additions to the Hotel. The 591 yard pier was built to serve as a landing point for tourist cruise ships arriving from de US. Due to unboarding complications, the pier has become a great spot for fishing an excellent place to enjoy the sunset.

If you take a walk by the pier or beach, you will find everything you need to practice fishing and many other water and beach activities. You can even try some surf lessons from local surf schools where you will be able to learn and practice this awesome sport.

Go back to the Rosarito Beach Hotel and walk heading north As you hit main Street, make a left and just a few feet away you will find Rock and Roll Taco site number 4.

:: Site 4 Rock and Roll Taco ::

The now restaurant-nightclub was an old building that originally housed the radio station XPRS, where the famous American commentator and DJ Wolfan Jack spinned the turntables for Southern California in the mid 60´s and early 70´s. Rock and Roll Taco is one of the city´s official icons, famous for its gourmet tacos, dancing waiters and legendary pool parties and a place where you can dance all night long to the hottest music.

Continue your walk heading north and you will hit The Festival Plaza Hotel site number 5.

Rosarito Beach Hotel Pier

:: Site 5 Festival Plaza Hotel ::

With an avant-guard design, its original architecture, open air concerts, party ambiance and original attractions such as the ferris wheel located in the middle of the hotel next to the pool and Jacuzzi, the Festival Plaza Hotel has been the gathering pint for the youg party crowd. Take a stroll inside and find restaurants, shops, cigar shop, arts & craft shops, as well as the famous Tequila Museum.

After you finish your visit, continue walking the Blvd. heading north to the corner of the Festival Plaza Hotel and Calle Nogal. Make a left there and ente the Barbachano Zone site number 6.

:: Site 7 Barbachano Zone ::

The area located between Rosarito Ave. and Corona Ave. runs horizontally to Blvd. Benito Juárez, is considered the bar and nightclub area of Rosarito Beach. A place where you have a beach and nightclub combined atmosphere 7 days a week. Here you will find worldly renowned noghtclubs such as Sr. Frogs, the legendary Papas & Beer, Club Vibe, Bannanas, Rock and Roll Lobster, Club Maya, among others. Don´t forget to visit this area at night time so you can enjoy the party! Walk Back to Benito Juárez Blvd. and continue your tour heading north to Plaza Pueblo Shopping Center  site number 7. 

 

:: Site 7 Plaza Pueblo Shopping Center ::

One of the most original Plazas in Rosarito. This plaza houses, among other things, Sussana´s mediterranean restaurant, a Spa, an art´s & craft´s shop, a cigar shop, a rustic furniture shop and a very original leather coat and jacket workshop where you will be able to observe the manufacturing process of coats & jackets.

Now go outsite the plaza and continue heading north, cross Eucalipto Ave. and in the corner you will find El Nido Restaurant site number 8.

  :: Site 8 El Nido Restaurant ::

This very original restaurant was founded un 1971, serves deer, meat and quail in a rustic and country style atmosphere. They grow their own quail in a the heart of the Guadalupe Valley wine country. We recommend you visit the garden and admire every little detail of the rustic decoration. Enjoy their original deer chorizo, quail eggs or some babby back ribs.

Continue on the walkway heading north and a few feet away you will find the main entrance to the Art & Crafts Market  site number 9.

Pueblo Plaza

 :: Site 9 Art & Craft Market ::

A commercial passage with multiple corridors that houses over 200 hundred shops where you will find jewelry, arts & crafts, rock art, leather and bone artifacts among other things. A common practice here is to bargain with the shop vendors to get the best prices on every item sale. We are pretty sure you will get the best prices anywhere. We recomend you enjoy your shopping in stablished shops only.

Head out the market and keep walking north bound and soon you will hit Centro Comercial Oceana Plaza and find the Rosarito Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau site number 10.

Bilingual staff provides tourist information. You will find the office in suite 14 behind Banorte Bank in Centro Comercial Oceana Plaza.

Continue heading north towards the end of the street, here you will find Dulcería Ayala site number 11.

 

:: Site 11 Dulcería Ayala ::

Multiple and colorfull "piñatas" lead you into the entrance of the mos popular and typical Mexican Candy store. A Place where you can find authentic Mexican candy, milk chocolates, caramels, glorias, jamoncillos, mazapanes,tangy tamarinds, a variety of cheeses, dry fruits, chiles and other Mexican spices.

This will be our final point of interest of the tour; we will now be heading back. Cross the street to the other side of Benito Juárez Blvd., and walk heading towards your car or hotel.

Last, but not least, we invite you to stop by any restaurant or taco shop you like. If you want to explore and keep discovering Rosarito,  we recommend you drive or take a cab south of Benito Juárez Blvd. to Popotla, where you will find:

-The Fausto Polanco Gallery, FPG website.

Keep going south and you will enter the Arts & Crafts Corridor.

 :: The Art & Craft Corridor ::

This area int the manufacturing zone for the most original and representative of  Rosarito´s furniture, iron works, arts and crafts, beautiful hand-crafted wood pieces, vases, marble, mosaic among other decorative objects.

It was in the early 1970`s that this area began developing. The establishment of a business by the name of "Casa la Carreta" , they started to manufacture rustic Mexican furniture, and others joined in this such as "Los Rios" interior decoration shop, Casa Valerio, Marble Collection, Torre Iron, Martinez Inc., where the soul detonators of this area.

Today,  Rosarito Beach is an important manufacturing district that contributes to the Mexican economy with exports of custom made furniture or iron works, with over 190 manufacturing established businesses.

 :: FOXPLORATION ::

Due to the succes of James Cameron´s 1997 Titanic, filmed entirely in Fox Studios Baja, located in Rosarito Beach, 20th Century Fox decided to build FOXPLORATION right nexto to the studios.  A great theme park that captures the magic of movie making that takes visitors behind the scenes and to play in their interactive workshops.

A place with out a doubt, captures the magic of movies, where you will be able to appreciate things like the original sailboat used on the film "Master and Commander" starring Russel Crowe, even a New York Style city street from a famous movie production inspired by New York
